Reverberating from the creators of
BLAST comes SHOCKWAVE continuing the exciting concept in live entertainment
that rocked Broadway and won a Special Tony Award® for "Best Theatrical
Event". BLAST redefined musical theater and created a new theatrical
experience. SHOCKWAVE continues digging into the music vaults to draw its
musical inspiration from the classics, blues, jazz, rock and roll, and
Broadway. Unlike the symphony, the cast is in constant motion, executing
intricately choreographed drill movements while performing two hours of music
on brass, percussion and a special group of woodwind instruments, electronic
percussion and cell phones. Just like BLAST, SHOCKWAVE has no storyline but is
a musical journey that combines music, movement and color. As in opera and
musical theater, the performers act, dance, and sing.
SHOCKWAVE'S musical arrangements
include Billie Holiday's "God Bless the Child," to contemporary songs like
"Uninvited" by Alanis Morissette and "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen. Buddy
Rich's signature piece, "Channel One Suite," and "Prelude Fugue and Riffs" by
Leonard Bernstein are some of the popular classics that audiences of every age
will enjoy.
BLAST was a totally new theatrical
event created from Drum and Bugle Corp's outdoor pageantry. One difference, is
that SHOCKWAVE adds woodwind instruments to the traditional brass used in
BLAST. Where BLAST was derived from Drum and Bugle Corps, SHOCKWAVE comes from
a Stan Kenton progressive big band style. The musical selections include more
jazz and international flavors. The visual ensemble will use more traditional
dance styles intermixed with the "color guard" style using flags in styles
specifically created for SHOCKWAVE.
