A
Violin Sings, a Fiddle Dances

One
of the most commonly asked questions that the creators and performers of
Barrage are asked is: What is the difference between a violin and
a fiddle? Our answer to this question is the seed of our new
theatrical production entitled A Violin Sings, a Fiddle Dances. The
different voices of the violin and the fiddle weave throughout the show,
appearing and then disappearing, hinting at the musical differences and
similarities between the violin and the fiddle.
This show is a visual and
aural feast! Dynamic choreography keeps the eyes of the audience moving,
continually searching for where the action will come from next. The latest
techniques in theatrical and rock n' roll lighting design capture the cast of
violin players as they weave effortlessly between each other, form crisp
lines, dissolve into spinning concentric circles and resolve into tightly knit
formations with bows flying and feet blurring.
The
unique ensemble sound of Barrage captivates the ear from the very first note.
Dean Marshall's beautiful and original score elevates the violin to new and
magical heights and features a wide range of musical influences including:
Calypso, Swing, Country, Jazz, Klezmer, Classical and Pop. This intense and
uplifting musical palette is presented through a specifically designed audio
system that captures the full spectrum of musical nuance, from the slightest
emotional crescendo through to the boldest beats of pure audio power.
